Scuba Class of the Month: SDI Solo Diver Course

Posted: Jun 02 in Latest News tagged , , , by Jan

Each month we will feature a different Scuba course offered here at Do Dive In.  The Scuba Class of the month for June is SDI’s very popular Solo Diver course.

Solo Diver =The Art of Self Sufficiency

Raise your hand if this ever happened to you: You’re on the dive boat solo, for whatever reason, and the divemaster pairs you up with a complete stranger who is newly certified stating “You have to dive with a buddy”.  You think “OK how bad can this be?”  Then you glance over at your insta-buddy who proceeds to assemble his rental gear- backwards. You quickly realize you’re buddy probably  isn’t going to be of much help to you during the dive.  Basically, you are on your own and will be spending most of your dive watching him like a hawk.

So what’s the solution?  With an emphasis on self sufficiency, SDI’s solo diver program teaches experienced recreational divers how to safely & responsibly dive independently of a dive buddy while at the same time, strengthening buddy team skills. The course stresses proper dive planning, personal limitations, accident prevention as well as the benefits, hazards, and proper procedures for diving solo if you must. You will also learn the additional equipment that is required for solo diving including its proper usage and assembly.  The class consists of two classroom sessions and a minimum of 2 open water dives.  Prerequisites include  Advanced Open Water certification plus 100 logged dives & 21 years of age.

The Solo Diver course is the perfect class for underwater photographers and video divers, traveling divers who often times are paired with divers they don’t know, or any experienced diver interested in developing their skills of self sufficiency.  Course tuition is $200 and includes all student materials and specialty equipment.  Interested?  Call Jan for more information.
